What I offer

Piano Lessons

Our first session is free – it’s a chance to meet each other and talk about what you would like to achieve & for me to assess your starting point. All future lessons are structured individually, based on your preferences and ability. Even if a favourite piece of music is out of your reach at the moment in its original form, I will arrange simpler versions so that you can immediately begin playing the music you love. All teaching is one to one and takes place in a relaxed informal atmosphere playing a top quality acoustic Kawai upright piano. Lessons are weekly; younger beginners may find 30 minutes long enough, whereas older children & adults will benefit more from 45 minutes or an hour – (and the higher practical grades certainly will).

Easy Piano Arrangements

Play the music you want to play, whatever stage you have reached I write music for my pupils all the time, and I’m happy to do this for anyone . To transcribe any piece of music for you, I will need to know: the music/song title the level of difficulty you need – eg exam grade or key I will then produce a manuscript sheet which I can email to you as a pdf file. For an extra fee I will also send you the music as an mp3 file, so that you can hear what it should sound like! The fee for this service varies according to the length and difficulty of the piece: when you get in touch I will give you a quote.

Accompaniment

Associated Board Exam candidates, both instrumental and vocal, need piano accompaniment for their chosen pieces. This is something I really enjoy, so if you’re not a pianist, but looking for one – give me a call. We can arrange rehearsals leading up to the exam, and I will be there with you on the day itself. Exams are stressful enough without having a stranger as your accompanist!

The man behind the piano

Hi, I’m Nick, and I love helping people succeed with learning to play the piano and all the pleasure that brings into their lives. I have been teaching for over twenty years and hold the ABRSM Certificate of Teaching. I teach beginners from the age of six upwards, through to adults of all ages. I also work for Leeds City Council’s ArtForms as an enhanced piano accompanist in schools, and have acted as the Musical Director of a local musical theatre group.
I have an up-to-date DBS Enhanced Disclosure Certificate.

People often return to the piano after many years break or even begin learning because “it’s just something I’ve always wanted to do”.
Whatever your reason for learning, or present level of skill, I can use my extensive knowledge of a broad range of musical styles to find the right path for you (not everyone wants to do exams!) However, I am very experienced in preparing my students for the graded piano exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of music and maintain a 100% pass rate. I also offer theory tuition up to grade 5 for those aiming for practical grades 6 and above.
So if you’re looking for lessons, and would like a teacher who is experienced, friendly and approachable, please do give me a call right now – I would love to hear from you.
